Sayantan Das wins 1st Bella Italia Masters 2022, Diptayan third
IM Sayantan Das scored 7/9 to win 1st International Festival Bella Italia of Lignano Sabbiadoro Masters 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - IM Francesco Sonis (ITA), GM Diptayan Ghosh, GM Visakh N R and Aaron Deepak (USA) scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Only Diptayan remained undefeated among the top ten finishers. WIM Mounika Akshaya was the sole woman among the top ten. She scored 5.5/9 to finish ninth. The top three prizes were €1500 and a trophy, €1000 and €600 each respectively. Sayantan's rating is now 2489 which means he is 11 points away from becoming India's next Grandmaster.
Sayantan Runner-up in Blitz, Priyanka Nutakki third
Italy's very own GM Francesco Sonis won the Blitz event 6/7. His only loss was against the eventual second runner-up WGM Priyanka Nutakki 5.5/7. She remained undefeated. The winner of the Classical event, IM Sayantan Das scored 6/7 to finish second on tie-breaks.







A total of 46 players including 5 GMs, 2 IMs, 2 WGMs and a WIM took part from ten countries in the Master (>2000) section. The tournaments were organized by Lignano Scacchi in four different rating categories and also a Blitz event from 17th to 23rd August 2022 in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. The time control was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment for the Classical event.
