P Saravana Krishnan dominates 1st Eight Square Chess Academy Rating Open 2025

IM P Saravana Krishnan scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Eight Square Chess Academy Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. IM Md. Imran scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Four players - Kavin E, Dhanush Ragav N S, Barath L and Logesh Kumar R scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹500001. The top three prizes were ₹50001, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Eight Square Chess Academy at Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 8th to 12th October 2025. Saravana's first rating tournament triumph of the year

IM P Saravana Krishnan and Dhanush Ragav N S were the coleaders at 7.5/8 each, going into the final round. Dhanush lost to Saravana and the latter became the champion. IM Md. Imran won against FM Ayushh Ravikumar to secure second place. Kavin E defeated A Yuvanesh to finish third.

Mr. Stephen Balasamy, Honorary Secretary of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association,Mr. Ganesan K, Honorary Secretary of Chennai District Chess Association and Vice President, TNSCA presided in the presence of Mr. Srinivasan, Treasurer, TNSCA and Mr. Sakthi Prabhakar, Joint Secretary of CDCA at the inauguration ceremony.

A total of 334 players including four IMs took part from various parts of the country, one from Egypt and four from the USA. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Eight Square Chess Academy at Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 8th to 12th October 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
