Syed Anwar Shazuli triumphs at 1st KPK-ABCCC Rapid Rating Open 2023

FM Syed Anwar Shazuli scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st KPK-ABCCC Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - IM FT Harikrishnan A Ra, Nirmal L, FM Harshad S and Ram S Krishnan scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively. Nirmal and Harshad also remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹12000 each respectively. This was Syed's first rating tournament triumph of the year. First rating tournament triumph in over six years

FM Syed Anwar Shazuli scored eight consecutive wins. He was 8/8 heading into the final round. The sole pursuer was Nirmal L 7.5/8. They drew their game and Syed became a clear champion, Nirmal third. IM FT Harikrishnan A Ra defeated Srihari K R to secure second place.

A total of 414 players including an IM took part from various states across the country in this one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by KPK Chess Academy and ABCCC at Shri Kamatchi Amman Kalyana Mandapam in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu on 3rd December 2023. The time control of the event was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
