Sailesh wins 1st United Educational Institutions and Coimbatore District Chess Association Rating Open 2025

Sailesh R, Nigash G, CM Lakshmi Narayanan M V, Adharva P T, Selvamurugan B and Mani Bharathy scored 7.5/9 each at 1st United Educational Institutions and Coimbatore District Chess Association Rating Open 2025. Sailesh won the tournament due to better tie-break score. The remaining five were placed second to fifth respectively. Sailesh, Nigash and Adharva remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹400001. The top three prizes were ₹50001, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by United Educational Institutions and Coimbatore District Chess Association at United Educational Institutions in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 21st to 25th May 2025. Sailesh clinches his third rating tournament in 17 days, Top six score 7.5/9

CM R Shadhursshaan, Sailesh R and CM Lakshmi Narayanan M V were the leaders at 7/8 each. Sailesh drew with Lakshmi to become the champion and the latter finished third. Divesh V lost to Nigash G who secured second position. This is the third consecutive Classical rating tournament, Sailesh won in Tamil Nadu, within a span of only 17 days from 8th to 25th May. The Chennai lad certainly had a fantastic month with consistent performance. He scored an unbeaten 23/25 combining all three tournaments and gained 34.4 Elo rating points in total.

A total of 283 players took part from all over the country. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by United Educational Institutions and Coimbatore District Chess Association at United Educational Institutions in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 21st to 25th May 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
