Ramnathan Balasubramaniam dominates Velammal Ponneri Rating Open 2025

IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win Velammal Ponneri Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. R A Pradeep Kumar and Jayanth Venkatesh scored 7/8 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. The four-day eight round Rating Open tournament was organized by playu.in at The Velammal International School in Ponneri, Tamil Nadu from 8th to 11th May 2025. Ramnathan's first rating tournament triumph of the year

IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam made a fantastic start by winning eight games in-a-row. R A Pradeep Kumar was the only player at 6.5/7. Ramnathan drew with him to become a clear champion and Pradeep secured second place. Kailash V lost to Jayanth Venkatesh and the latter finished third.

A total of 238 players including an IM took part from all over the country and one from the USA. The four-day eight round Rating Open tournament was organized by playu.in at The Velammal International School in Ponneri, Tamil Nadu from 8th to 11th May 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
