Nitin S prevails at 1st Vimana City's Rating Open 2025

IM Nitin S scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Vimana City's Rating Open 2025. Nitin finished a half point ahead of the rest. Half a dozen players - IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, Sham R, Vakeesh S, Ebin Benny, Mohammad Tharig S and Sreerag Padman scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. Nitin defeated both runners-up Balasubramaniam and Sham in seventh and eighth round respectively. The total prize fund was ₹1100001. Top three prizes were ₹100001, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each. This was Nitin's first rating tournament triumph of the year.

IM Nitin S was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the last round. Sham R was the sole player trailing him by a half point at 7/8. Nitin drew against Gokul Krishna S and.Saisarvesh S with Sham R. Thus, Nitin became a clear champion, Sham third. Giridhar A lost to IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam who secured second place.

IM Nitin S scored an unbeaten 8/9, finished a half point ahead of the rest and gained 0.5 Elo rating points

A total of 439 players including two IMs took part from various states all over the country, two from Canada, one from England, one from Scotland and five from the USA. The five-day nine round Rating Open was organized by Golden Square Chess Academy at Kamala Subramaniam Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu from 23rd to 27th July 2025. The time control was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
