Muthaiah and Harikrishnan claim 1st MCA and CHCA Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2024

Four players - IM Muthaiah Al, IM Raahul V S, Emilio Profili (FRA) and Arpith S Bijoy scored 8/9 each at 1st MCA and CHCA Rapid Rating Open 2024. Muthaiah won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the Rapid Rating tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000 + trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each. IM Harikrishnan A Ra won the Blitz Rating Open scoring 8.5/9. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Raahul, Emilio and Arpith once again scored 8/9 each to claim the exact same ranks as Rapid. This is Muthaiah's third and Harikrishnan's tenth tournament triumph of the year.

Muthaiah wins on tie-breaks, Harikrishnan clear champion

IM Muthaiah Al and IM Raahul were the coleaders 7.5/8, heading into the final round of the Rapid Rating tournament. They drew their game against each other. Muthaiah became champion, Raahul second. Vijay Shreeram P lost to Emilio Profili (FRA). Emilio finished third. Femil Chelladurai is the sole female player to make a top ten finish. She scored 7.5/9 to finish seventh.

Champion in Rapid - IM Muthaiah Al 8/9

IM Harikrishnan A Ra and FM Ayushh Ravikumar were the coleaders 7.5/8, going into the last round of Blitz Rating Open. Ayushh lost to Harikrishnan, the latter became the champion. IM Raahul V S defeated Ram Kumar G M to secure second place. Emilio Profili (FRA) won against Madhavan V to finish third.

IM Muthaiah Al scored an unbeaten 8/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 18.8 Elo rating points

IM Harikrishnan A Ra scored 8.5/9, remained undefeated, finished a half point ahead of the rest and increased his Elo rating by 4.8 points

A total of 414 players including three IMs took part from all over the country in this two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Masters Chess Academy and Challenge Chess Academy at AST Thirumana Mandapam in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu on 19th and 20th October 2024. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
